Help Gerbil Split Cage????????

Hi i have just tried to put my 2 young male gerbils together after doing the split cage system for three week and swaping them 2-3 times a day. They have food water and some bedding NO TOYS so they concentrate on each other. I put them in the bath together and they seemed fine for about 2-3 mins then they went into a GERBILBALL so i had to seperate them. I put them back into there spilit cage and they are fine.

How long should i wait to try putting them together again and is there anything else i should look out for.

kind regards

chris

  1. Some gerbils just never learn to like eachother. Try it for a week longer, or until you see some good signs, i.e. sleeping next to the divider, not really paying attention to eachother, no aggresion when swithing sides. then remove the divider partway, so they can get underneath. Dont put them into the bathtub, just keep them in their cage, so they have the smells of them and the other gerbil. If it doesnt work, consider splitting them up and getting friends for them or just keep them in separate tanks lonely.

  2. if you got your gerbils from different places then you may simply have two males fighting for dominance

try using a split cage method where you have a see through divider, this may make you gerbils get used to each other

try again in a week or so and if you still have problems, i would try and talk to an expert like a gerbil breeder.

    hope i helped
