4)You can buy nail clippers but make sure there made for animals guinea pig size, cat nail clippers are to be trust me

    5) when they start to curl

    hope this helps

  2. Sorry i don't have a Guinea pig  are you going to use it for a science experiment?

Now I'll be serious, you should get it spayed, probably not that much, your G. Pig probably can live without a friend for a little while, buy some cat claw clippers, once every month or two.

I wasn't kiding about not having a G. Pig, the answers above are my best logic.

  3. 1) if you are getting a female guinea pig you don't have to get it spayed unless you are getting a male later, but if you get a male you might want to because they give of an oder once they go through sexual maturity.

    2) at my local humane society you can bring in your animal and they will do it for $35

3)it is good to have a pal for your guinea pig because the are very social animals, but if you are home a lot and are willing to spend a lot of time with it then it is ok but it would be best if it had a friend.

    4) most of the time you can find nail clippers at pet stores or at the vet, and you should go to a local vet and ask someone to show you how to clip the nails so you don't clip the nails to short.also, when you go to pick out your guinea pig look at the nails and it might be easier for you to get a guinea pig without black nails because when they have clear nails there is a small line that shows where you should clip the nail, but if you do get a guinea pig with black nails you can get someone to hold a flashlight under its nails so you can see the line better.

5)most people trim them every six weeks, but you might want to check them often just in case. be careful though don't let them get to long because when you give it floor time its nail might get caught on something and its nail could rip of or its toe could break.

wish you and your new guinea pig the best =)

  4. 1. it won't really matter as long as you are not ever going to get a male. It is easier to get a male neitered instead anyway

    2. It depends on your vet. You'd have to call and ask them

    3. One pig is fine as long as you are willing to spend time with her.

    4. You can get the nail clippers at most pet stores. I just use human clippers on my pig. They are small enough that it doesn't make a big difference as long as you are careful.

    5. How often you clip depends on how fast your pig wears them down. On light-colored cavies you can see the blood vessel in the nail- you want it to be just longer than that, its more difficult on darker ones. Just make sure that they can walk/run normally and comfortably.

  5. Please do not listen to the person who said not to trim the nails.  If you do not trim, they will grow too long and hurt the pig, make him/her not want to move, and eventually decline in health rapidly.  Try touching the feet early so the pig gets used to the feeling.  I did this with mine and he's so patient and trusting.  I can stick my finger in his mouth without problems.

Also, this is a great site to read and refer to: http://www.guinealynx.info/index.html

  6. 1~  You really don't have to unless you get another in the future and it's the opposite s*x and you don't want any babies/piglets!

2~  It's actually expensive for a small pet...  The actual price depend's on the vet!

3~  You don't want to get two if you can't afford to, but this means you will be its only source of socialization if you only get two!  Guinea pigs live happier lives when there's more than one!

4~  Your local pet store might have some.

5~  You can clip them every month, or as long as they aren't too long!

  7. At first, you have a lot of worries, but relax. Go to these websites (they helped me TONS) and read carefully through them. They are fabulous, you will have SO much fun, and you will love the info on it. =D There are some videos that give you tons of info straight from vets too!

  8. okay, here are some answers from me :)

1.) If you are getting a male, then really there is no need to have him neutered. There is no real agressive side to a guinea pig and the marking of teritory is no real big deal. I would just say it isnt worth paying for.

2.) I would say a price could be anywhere from £10-£50 for a guinea pig neutering, highly unnecessary though.

3.) I think instead of getting a male neutered, spend the money on getting another guinea pig. These little animals are very very sociable, and if you take a single guinea pig away after being with litter mates, he'll become lonely and scared very quickly.

With two around, each will feel more comfortable with you as the other one keeps an eye out for danger.

4.) You can get clippers from anywhere, cat or small dog nail clippers are fine. You may want to get your vet to show you exactly how to do it the 1st time, especially if you are unsure.

5.) This depends on what surfaces your guinea/s get to exercise on. If they are on concrete then this will of course keep them down natuarlly, with little cutting needed. However if thye are to constantly be on grass then they will need to be clipped more often. There is generally no set time span, just when they begin to get long, or curl around.

I hope i have helped, and generally i wish you the best of luck with your new Guinea pigs, they are wonderful pets that will make you a very happy person.:)

  9. 1)You don't ever really need to get your guinea pig spayed unless it is living with a male.

2)it would probably cost about 40-50 since it is a small animal.(this is just my opinion)

3)Get the second one as soon as you can, my guinea pig never met another guinea pig until she was 6 months old, i was 12 and i earned my money from chores, so it took me a while to earn $30.

4)You  might not need nail clippers, i just put branches and a few heavy rocks in their cage for them to climb on and that keeps their nails pretty should, and every 4 months i use a nail file....but the rocks do most of the work...

5)if you don't have any rocks or Branch's in the cage, their nails will keep growing, but it depends how fast the nails grow(i think it is cheaper just to put a rock in the cage, and when they climb on it that makes their nails shorter, and the branches help with the length of the teeth, so they don't over grow.)

  10. guinea pig doesn't need to b spayed...

don't buy the nail clippers, just let it grow, it's not gonna b that long.

(guinea pig will get terrified when u try to clip his nails, so he will try to escape... and it's impossible to clip his nails)

get some peddings, cuz they eliminate the smells of the c**p

  11. Congrats on getting a piggie! They are wonderful pets!

    1. Spaying is not necessary if there are no males around.

    2. N/A since spaying is not recommended.

    3. Guinea pigs are herd animals in the wild. They are very social & really *need* the interaction from another of their own kind to be happy & healthy. It doesn't cost hardly any more to take care of two piggies than it does one. Please get two same s*x piggies. Its the kindest thing to do.

    4. Use regular human toenail clippers. You can do it yourself. It takes a little practice, but after a few times, it will be no big deal.

    5. Nails should be clipped every 4 to 6 weeks, depending upon how fast they grow.

Make sure you have done your research on the care of these animals (housing, diet, illnesses to watch for, etc.) before bringing one home. Here is some reading that may help.
