  1. I don't think you'll have time to do anything useful. You'll need to go through customs and immigration on the way out - that takes an hour or so. You have to check in at least 2 hours before an international flight and you'll need to go through immigration and security. Sydney traffic can be very slow and you would have around 1 hour return journey to get to the city and back (possibly more). That all makes a very big hole in your 5 hours and you run a real risk of missing your flight.

Also, if you leave the transit lounge at the airport, you'll need a transit visa to get back on the plane.

  2. what are you dying or somethin

  3. To get to the harbour via train would take a good 20mins to Circular Quay. Then add either walking or ferry(which is the best way to see the harbour) to that and you would possibly have time. But if it is an International flight and you need to go back through customs I would not suggest it. But when you get there, maybe ask someone who works there what the go is and if it is at all possible.

  4. Are you on an international or domestic flight, and what is your ongoing connection? Worst case is international both legs.  Allow an hour to get through customs and immigration (and will you have a visa?).  Check in 2 to 3 hours before ongoing flight.  That gives you a couple of hours, which gives you time to catch a train into the city tyo spend an hour or so there.

Best case ids both legs domestic.  If you do not have to re-check your bags you can be on a train in 15 minutes.  You will have to check back in 30 minutes, so you will have 4 or 5 hours.

The CBD is about 15 minutes by train from the airport and there is a station at Circular Quay, right on the Harbour with easy access to the Bridge and the Opera House.  Or just take a ferry ride.

  5. You could if you rushed, I would go for it, you only need to get off the train at Circular Quay and you can see the bridge and the opera house!

Trains in/out of the airport are at extortion prices though!!

  6. The airport is close to the city (only about 8-10 miles out from what I remember) but you'll have to be quick if you want to see anything. Probably enough time to dash in and have a quick look at the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge, and then back to the airport. But at least you'll have seen 2 of the country's/worlds most famous landmarks. Go back again when you have a bit more time cos its a great city!

  7. As a frequent flyer, I would say it depends on whether or not you have an international flight to catch. If you are flying internationally, then I would not chance it. You must check in at least 90 mins before the deparature time if it's an international flight.

The new security screening means that you will spend (if it's a busy time during the day) anywhere from 30mins to 1.5 hours standing in line waiting for security. We spent 45 mins in line at Melbourne for security at 9am.

You will also need to claim your baggage if you cant check it through all of the way. This could take anywhere from 15mins to 30 mins depending on how quick your luggage comes out. When you get off your plane, you will have to go through customs, which is stringent here. So you could be through in 15 mins, depending on how many flights have come in at the same time...or if you have something suspicious in your case, (plant life, food, etc) then it may be as long as 45 mins.

So really, if you're lucky, the plane is on time, etc, you will spend at least 45 mins to 1.5 hours getting off the plane and collecting yourself.

Then you will spend another 1hour to 1.5 hours possibly just checking in and going through security and immigration.

So, that could be up to 3 hours, and that doesnt include if you stop at duty free. I wouldnt risk it for an international flight.

If you are flying domestic, then I think you may cut it close, but you could probably make it to see one or two things if you know exactly where you're going.

  8. If it was me... Yes i would go sit seeing.. but stay near the airport and give yourself about 1.5 hours to get back. Have fun!! <3
