  1. I'm not very smart when it comes to ipods, but you might want her to call Apple. They could help determine what is wrong and if its still kinda new, they sometimes replace it for free.

  2. is it an ipod classic?

i've heard of alot of people who own the classic who have had problems very similar to this. apple recognizes this as a defect in their product and if you call them and send the broken one back they'll send you a new one free.

if it's not a classic still call apple

  3. I would call Apple and ask them what the problem is. If its new and you just got it and its acting like that then take it to the store and they can give you a new one! I'm getting a ipod soon. So just call apple or take it to the store. :)

  4. No Ipod detected is an odd error message.

Make sure she has latest version of itunes installed and on windows restart before attempting anything.  start itunes running then reset ipod and as soon as the apple lights up connect it to the computer (make sure its direct to the computer and not via  a HUB) and make sure the USB port is capable of the full 500mA and not a low power one (some PC's and most laptops - in which case connect via a powered hub but make sure only the iPod is on the hub)

if this is an issue try removing the itunes and ipod preferences from the user account how you do this is dependant upon the operating system you use.

it should be recognised then the main cause for this is using it in other DOCK based audio systems without reset  betweenn using older firmware.

when it is connected try updating the firmware if there is on or a full restore should fix this. if this does not work on the computer try it on another computer then try it again on the original one as sometimes using a different comptuer will fix this.
