Hi everyone. I'm going back to college this fall for nursing. I'm almost 30 years old, married with children (2 and newborn). I am already applying for FASFA and the traditional pell grant; I was wondering what other programs or grants I might be eligible to apply for having two children, being half Filipino...I'm trying to find something that will not only pay my way through school, but will also help me pay for rent, bills, etc....

  1. If you don't mind being bogged down with student loans, loans will be the easiest, if not the only, way to tackle tuition and personal bills at the same time.

If at a community college nursing program, and you have an EFC of $0, AND you get the max amount for the pell grant, or other grants the school itself may offer, the grants would help with books/transportation, etc.

Don't forget -- there are TONS of scholarships out there, especially for those with Filipino heritage.  But you have to do the work to look for the scholarships -- try fastweb.com to start.  It's a scholarship search site.  But that site only goes so far.

Go to sites like this: http://www.asianpacificfund.org/awards/

that will lead you to scholarships for ethnic minorities.

There's a lot of money out there, and with a little research via internet/library, you can easily get the money you need to go back to school.

Good luck with school! I know how hard it can be to go back to school with children.. one day at a time!

  2. Bug the heck out of the Financial Aid office.  It's their job to help you.  Also, try talking to someone at the reference desk at the library.  They are there to help guide patrons find the infomation they are searching for.

    Good luck.

  3. you can get a college student loan out again! or maybe just try to raise some money
