For some reason, every weekday at midnight my computer turns on by itself. For example, its tuesday night and I turn off the computer. The computer is in my room, so at midnight I wake up because the computer turns on and the light of the screen makes the room bright. How do I fix this in the settings? Where do I go? btw, I have a Dell Windows XP.

  1. Sounds like you have something set up in the task manager. Look in Control Panel under Scheduled Tasks.

  2. Go to control panel and double click the schedule task.

open the program and clean or erase all schedule on it.

If that did not work then you have virus. so lets just hope it is just the task managment

  3. Aside from being wasteful leaving the computer connected all night---there seems to be a Scheduled Task set---please disable that.Removing the plug from the wall socket is the best thing to do when you go to bed.

  4. Hello,

The one program that can take control of your PC when it's turned off is the "Setup" program of your computer. You can access it just after you turned up your computer and before the Windows logo appear (Windows starts), by pressing "DEL" key on your keyboard (usually).

Usually a menu item by the title of "Power management" is in BIOS setup program which has some settings like, "Power On by Alarm", "Power on by Ring" or somethings like them.

Check that all of them are disabled.

If you didn't succeed (I hope you will) by the use of this method, just unplug your PC when you want to sleep.
