Ok here is what I have to work with:

-Nurnberger German pre-cooked bratwurst

-German style mustard

-German potato salad

-Saukraut

I also have hot dog buns available. Do I use them? Also, what beer is best to go with this meal? Thanks!

  1. Now you're making me hungry!  That's MY kind of food - been eating it all my life.

Pre-cooked makes your life EASY.  You just need to heat thoroughly in a frying pan (I prefer to use cast iron, but that's just the way I was raised) - they're best when golden brown.  Forget the hotdog buns - that's a North American thing.

Just plate a couple of those delicious bratwurst with a good-sized scoop of German potato salad, an equal amount of sauerkraut (which you cook with about a tablespoon of caraway seeds to one pound of k***t), and a dollop of nice hot German style mustard for dipping (I prefer the tubed-variety - you can always squeeze more out as needed).  I'd serve a lager (like Budweiser - the original was made in Budweis, Czech Republic, which is just a stone's throw from Bavaria), or, if you can get it, a Bitburger.  In Germany, they prefer their beer somewhat warmer than I do - the ones in the fridge were always mine.

Enjoy your meal!  I wish I were there.

  2. Alright my husband is German (born and raised in Germany) so I have had this meal quite a few times...his favorite way to eat such is to dip the bratwurst in the mustard before putting the bratwurst in a frying pan. Do not use buns just eat it that way. Home made german potato salad is the best if you know how to make it. The best German beer is Hefeweizen. I don't know if they sell that beer where you are. We can always find it while visiting my family in NJ but havent been able to find it here in SC....good luck hope it turns out great!
