Help! How do I stop this bad habit and punish my cat the right way?

I have three cats and one is a kitten. She always attacks my older cat and he doesn't fight back but makes terrible noises of pain/being annoyed. I get really mad when she keeps doing it so sometimes I spank her and other times I lock her in the laundry room. I feel really bad after doing either of those and I need an alternative. P.S. I don't have a spray bottle!

You are putting yourself through unnecessary guilt, and here's why... you know your treatment is worse than the illness and will produce an anti-social cat.  But, lucky for you there is an easy solution that simply works every time and keeps cats and their owners happy!  A water bottle!  

Directions:  ****  Use for fighting only ***

1) Write on grocery list, no punishing the cat until you buy one!

2) Fill with water

3) Shake and warn (once)

4) squirt

5) Repeat steps 1 through 4 for subsequent problems.  Always treat one problem at a time, otherwise it will appear as if you are squirting it for fun.  So make sure to single out 1 problem at a time. Dont forget a verbal warning and shake first,  then eventually a verbal warning is all you will need.

You don't hit them and you don't spray bottle them. If you want to interfere just get between the kitten and the older cat, The noise your older cat is making is a warning and he will take care of himself. This is natural behavior and a cat will not understand or relate what you are doing to what they are doing.

this is where I say the ah ah theory. When the cats start something step in immediately and separate them or stop the behavior as soon as it happens. Kittens will play no matter what, that's a given. If you stop it and discipline them then just like a dog they should begin to understand that that behavior is not tolerated.

You get in close with the spray bottle. Believe me after the second time, you will only have to reach for it and she'll stop.

Locking her in the room isn't going to do anything.  She won't associate the crime with the punishment.  Same with the spanking, corporal punishment will only make her fear you.  The only effective way to train a cat is with a bottle of water.  Canned air also works with my cat.  Although, this is really just typical behavior of a kitten, and like it or not, your older cat is going to be annoyed by him.  They'll get used to each other eventually.  In the mean time it might be best to keep them apart when you are not around (so as not to cause the elder undo stress).  The kitten will mature soon enough.

She is just being a kitten. She is learning how to be a cat. Stuff like limits and boundaries, how to hunt and such. The older cat makes a noise as if to say "that's as far as you go missy" it's so she knows how rough her play can get. Let her be a kitten. If she is really being naughty simply make a loud sound like a quick clap or "Ba!" or some such, or get a water gun or spray bottle, a horn, or an air gun and use it at the precise moment she does something bad. Then she will associate something horrible with whatever she did. Don't punish her after the fact, like if she pees somewhere, don't take her back and punish her because she won't understand why you would take her back there. But i would really suggest just letting  her be.

a spray bottle is the best idea really, but cats aren't like dogs, there not ready to be trained, and it might not work right away, or ever actually. just don't panic about getting a spray bottle, don't use an old cleaning spray bottle because of dangerous chemicals, buy one that is for spraying indoor plants or something, you can get them from Wilkinson's=D P.S try stroking one and then the other and then the other so that the scents are intermixed.

Get  a horn and blow it when she starts to attack  the other cat.Make sure she is scared of the sound and tell her bad kitty when you blow the horn .Eventually she will understand that fighting does not help the situation.

they hve these great airguns at the the toy store that blow balls of air, thats all , just balls of air.  Try that or a squirt bottle.  has to be done at moment of attack
