How can I get rid of them for good and how the heck can I find out where the little blighters are coming from..it's making my skin crawl.

  1. I don't think you have that big of a problem, but a really good way to get rid of them reasonably quickly is to put up "Fly Paper".  The same stuff that's been used for many, many years.  You can buy it from any good hardware store.  It comes in a small tube and coils out, to hang down from the ceiling.  Make absolutely sure you do not touch it or let it come into contact with anything.  The sticky glue is almost impossible to get off.  Hang it as high up as possible, way out of reach by you or your cat.  Hang at least one in each room.

Within just a couple of days you'll be rid of all the flies.

Oh, and make sure you keep all  your windows screened.  If you also make sure there is nothing they can feed on, like sugar, cookies, cakes, meat, fish, etc. laying around, they'd starve to death within a few days anyway.  If you do all this, and you still have problems, you MUST find the source within your house, where they're breeding and the maggots are developing.  Check the attic and basement for a dead mouse or rat, etc.

  2. Sorry to say but the only reason you are infested with flies is because your house needs a good clean. They are hatching in your house. I'm not saying that a house is dirty if flies come in but there could be something you've missed in the house that's attracting them. Hope you solve your problem.

  3. I had the same annoyance last week. (my house is very clean). Like you it was driving me insane, and l knew l had to find the source. It was occurring in the kitchen, because they were at the inside of the windows. l searched and cleaned for hours for hours, but to no avail. I discussed the problem with my next door neighbours (who had no problem), He suggested that it might be a deeper problem ie under the floorboards! I`ve woodblock flooring, and started to remove and explore. After about 20 mins (luckily), l found the problem. A mouse had died, and consequently was providing an ideal breeding ground for the flies. Cleaning up was not pleasant, but it did cure the problem. Not saying it is your answer, and you might not be able to access under the floor, but if it doesn`t help you, l hope it`s useful for someone. Believe me l do sympathise. Hope you find it.

  8. Fill a jar with a sweet liquid (honey and syrup do well) and leave it out in the room where you think they are the most, and they'll be attracted to it and die :/ (beer works well too).

If it gets much worse, call in pest control!

  9. I've read all the answers given and as you have a cat and don't want to use any spays or toxic substances the answer given by Helz has always worked. You get a small glass jar and put in it some beer or honey and water-also vinegar with the honey water works well- Fill it about half full. Over the top cover with some greaseproof paper or even ordinary paper will do. Secure it with string or a rubber band. Into this you cut a slot shaped like the letter "U" so that it is in effect a trap door. Then you simply hang it up somewhere in the vicinity of where the flies are bothering you. This is a cheap and very effective way to trap flying insects. If you don't want to look at what you have caught-just tape some paper round the sides of the jar.You don't have to have a dirty house to be bothered by them. Its summer time and temperatures are high so the eggs quickly hatch into maggots and then flies on any available food source. It could be a dead rat in a tunnel somewhere near your house-any dead meat in fact. It could be excreta from anything from a cat to a dog or even bird droppings though these are generally too alkaline. They could be coming from garbage or practically anywhere. The moment you open any window (or door) they can fly in-not always buzzing about at once but sometimes deceitfully waiting on a curtain or somewhere until you are sitting comfortably and then buzzing infuriatingly around.

I have problems with the small fruit flies. They seem to hover about six inches in front of your eyes so that one minute they are there and the next they have drifted out of focus. Its THAT time of the year when the fruit is on the trees-particularly plums. They will be gone soon.

  10. Flies dont go only to dirty area's guys!

I keep my house spotless and still they come in.

I think fly spray is the best thing but it never keeps them away for long!

  11. Sound like cluster flies. Do a google search.

  12. Try to find a Fly-Mushroom http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fliegenpilz put it into a bowl of milk. The fly's will drink the milk and are gone without poisening you with chemical stuff.

  13. dont leave any food out, make sure you close doors right when u get in or out of your house

  14. Get fly killing spray, and spray all the areas where the flies are.

  15. There are probably eggs everywhere.

Just buy a few of them fly traps from a shop and stick them to windows and stuff.

Or you could just buy Venus Fly Traps.  They are waycooler.

Also in the meantime, lock them all in a room and go berserk, it's so much fun.

  16. get those hanging fly tape things!

  17. Call the exterminator. Search the house for trash or anything rotting. Search for how they are getting in. Get a zapper and kill them quick. Fumigate your house to kill the source.
