Question:

Help - I'm having problems downloading historical S&P500 data from yahoo finance?

Each time I try to download historical S&P500 data from yahoo finance I get an error message: " Historical quote data is unavailable for the specified date range."

I seem to get this regardless of the date range I select. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Steve

  1. I/ve experience this same problem (Historical quote data is unavailable for the specified date range) since Tuesday, May 29th.  It occurs on four stock symbols I've been tracking for about 3 years.  It occurs with IE7, Firefox, and Opera.  I've cleared all history and all cookies, same problem.  I have sent Yahoo Finance a question and if I get an answer will post it.

  2. ALL of the ETF symbols that I track regularly stopped working since early last week.  Hopefully yahoo will fix this problem soon.

  3. Looks like they're having some "technical difficulties, esp since it's still working for other symbols.

You might need to report this directly to Y!Finance.

Here's how to get to a page to report your problem directly to Yahoo!

In Yahoo!Finance, at the top right of the page, there's a help link. Click on that to get your here

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/finance...

Then click on one of the links on the left like quote basics. Here's that page:

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/finance...

Finally, at the bottom is the contact customer care button. Yes, it's convoluted, but that's one way to get there!

Oh, or just click here (if it works). (hard for me to test if it works since I clicked through to get there)

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/finance...

Once you get there and ask your question, they're pretty good at getting back to you, but you may have to ask/answer back and forth a couple of times.

    Hope that helps!

  4. I've had the same problem.  The symbol ^gspc is listed in

the Yahoo database but it won't provide data.  I've done

a Google search but so far have not found out why the problem occurs. There must to be many people with the same problem.
