Question:

Help! I'm in trouble at work...what happens now?

At work i've been caught putting expensive cameras through the till as something else, so a £200 camera is sold for £20. My boss has found out and he's been carrying out an investigation. He called and asked me to come in on Monday for an interview so he can ask me lots of questions as only i have the answers to them.

It's not like i did it every day, i only did it with 5 or 6 cameras for some family and friends.

In the interview, what are my rights? What kind of questions am i allowed to not answer? Are police likely to get involved? What is the most likely outcome of all of this? Is there an easy way out?...i'm happy to leave the company.

Thanks for your time everyone, i'm really worried about this.

  1. Admit nothing, deny everything and make counter-accusations

  2. You should have a lawyer present for this conference.  There is, alas, no easy way out.  Even if you left the company or were to be sacked, the boss could still put the pinch on your for robbery.  Yes, do make sure you have a lawyer with you.  That way, should the matter come to Her Majesty's Courts, there will be a record of what was said and what was done during the conference with your boss.  This could be of great help in your defence.  Good luck to you.

  3. Well first off shame on you!! But hey we all have done it. What you need to do is apologize to your boss come clean about it and beg him to let you pay for the cameras. Suck up big time if you have to tell him that you are very sorry but you needed money to buy food and stuff and you feel so ashamed. Tell him you will quit without question. Good luck and remember you always get caught.

  4. You know that your boss is going to ask you about this?  As a former loss prevention associate, I have a feeling he has proof and is going to ask you the questions in an effort for you to come clean on your own.

The easy way out is to come clean and strike a deal with your boss.

If you lie or stonewall, he may have the evidence anyway and call the police.  If you simply quit work, he can still call the police.

I expect you won't have your job any more.  Deal with that.

  5. just quit, the police will prob get involved and you will problem be changed for some thing and fired. maybe jail time..

  6. I WOULD ANSWER NO QUESTIONS AT ALL.......

YOU DONT HAVE TO ANSWER ANYTHING, AND IF YOU ADMIT WRONGDOING, THEY MAY PROSECUTE

IF THEY ASK YOU QUESTIONS, JUST KEEP ANSWERING BY SAYING "ARE YOU ACCUSING ME OF SOMETHING?"

IF THEY SAY YES, THEN LEAVE IMMEDIATELY AND TELL THEM TO CONTACT YOUR ATTORNEY IF THEY HAVE FURTHER QUESTIONS..... (EVEN THOUGH YOU DONT HAVE AN ATTORNEY JUST YET)

BUT DONT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS...

  7. just stop going to work

  8. Your a thief and a liar and cheater. I hope your put in jail,i can't get over your attitude of like i only did it a few times like that's suppose to make it OK and then just be excused for your dishonesty. More than likely your a wimpish type of person that will not stand up and take your punishment you deserve like a man or woman. What i would like to happen and what probably will happen are two different things so my advice DEAL WITH IT..

  9. Face it. Theft is theft, even if you "only did it 5 or 6 times".  You have been caught stealing. Expect the police to get VERY involved. The least that can happen is that you lose your job and have to pay back your employer for the cameras.  The worst would be that you are prosecuted and sent to prison.

  10. Get a very good lawyer. Don't talk to police. They will LIE to you saying they have this and that just to get a confession. You will want a criminal defense attorney (i'm not calling you a criminal but thats the designation of the type of lawyer you will need).

    Everything will be alright.

  11. You will most likely be fired. Possible criminal charges as well. You would be best to offer your resignation now and make restitution.  Hire a lawyer if they pursue the criminal charges.
