Question:

Help! I've been having severe colon and abdominal spasms.?

I recently started having very severe and painful spasms in my colon and/or abdomen.

They appear out of no where (there doesn't seem to be any trigger), and are completely debilitating. When they occur I can't even move and become very short of breath....I usually have to lie down on my back or side until it passes, anywhere from 30-60 minutes. I also get very nauseous while it's happening. These episodes seems to occur every few weeks.

For the record, I am "regular" and do not have problems with constipation. I do not have any food allergies.

I have a 2 year old and these problems occurred after my pregnancy. They started very randomly (once every 6 months or so), but are starting to increase in frequency.

I want to add that I DO plan to see my doctor next week about it, but was just wondering if anyone had any insight so that I can do a little research in the meantime.

If anyone suffers from this or has insight as to what the problem may be, I'd appreciate the advise.

  1. As you described there should be nothing thatn muscle cramps, in this case 400 mg Ibobrufen three times a day should take care of it

( Do not take more than a week), Make sure you keep that area warm, and cover it while you are sleeping. Besides, see a adoctor as soon as possible .

    Good luck

  2. Take careful notes about your diet, and try to isolate a food that is triggering this reaction.

Its entirely possible you're reacting badly to pork, fresh tomatoes or something else. As the reaction might be delayed, it can be difficult to figure out what is causing this.

Definitely see the doctor too. I'm only suggesting a possibility, there's no way you could get a diagnosis here.

  3. Ask for a blood test to determine if your are

    Gluten intolerant...

as pregnancy can Trigger/activate this condition...

There may be other "things" this could be, however be sure to be tested ...

I suffered from mild to severe intestinal discomfort for over 30 years before being tested.and finding I was gluten intolerant..... back in the "olden" days this was a difficult disease  to  diagnose now days it is ease to do...

I just noticed that you planned to do a little research...  If you research gluten intolerance you may be tempted to quit eating wheat, barley, rye and oat products...

please, do NOT change your eating habits before having a gluten intolerance blood test as a change would effect the out come of the test... eat as you normally do until after you have the test.
