Help! I've got cable TV free for a week and don't know how to connect anything? !?

I have a dilemma. My apartments sent a letter saying all residents will have free cable for the next 10 days to try it out, I'd love to try it out but what do I do? How to I hook everything up I've never had cable tv in my life ! Please help me I'd like to take advantage of this wonderful offer. I don't have a cable box or anything but I do have a long thing sticking out of the wall so I should be able to hook up without a box. thank you SOOOOO much !
