so I am a Freshman at college and a very valuable bag was stolen from me. My ipod, $300 of bank money, and more importantly my social security # was inside of it. I locked the door so no one could get in and I put it in my closet in the very back. I also confronted my room mate. I dont know what else to do. Should I go down to the local banks and tell them not to except the account.

  1. Talk to your RA about it.  What did the roommate say?  It's cash, so the local banks cannot do anything about it.  Why didn't you deposit the money into a bank account with a bank near campus?

  2. 1. Make a police report.  Your (or your parent's) homeowners insurance may cover the loss.

    2. Notify campus security.

    3.  DEFINITLEY go to your bank.  Also notify  all your credit card companies and the three credit reporting agencies.  They will freeze your accounts and prevent ID theft,  It is a free service.  There is nothing more important in your life right now.  You must protect yourself.
