Help! I Need a Good, Free Anti-Virus Program That Includes MalWare and Phising Protection!

Question

I had a pop-up from AVG (which I don't have installed) telling me I had threats to my computer. Then I was directed to their site. I clicked on a product was supposed to be free. It took about half an hour to download. Then the kicker, they wouldn't run it until I purchased the key. I had a real run-around trying to get all those things off my screen. But I desperately need anti-virus protection - for free. Suggestions???

I have the same AVG anti-virus which I downloaded for free. and it works fine. On their website you have to look for basic free version. I would delete or uninstall whatever you downloaded, and than look carefully for free version. good luck.

AVG is free but you have to look for the free one. Most websites have you to BUY AVG but go to  http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-F... and you could download AVG for free, like I did :) It dosen't take that long...mine took about under 10 minutes

The best free antivirus is Avast.

But to remove your immediate threats from your computer you have to use a product like Malwarebytes, which isnt free but the trial version can scan and remove those spywares installed. After that you can use Avast for virus scanning and realtime protection.
