My cat is about 7. He's fixed, never been outside and had 1 set of shots years ago.Today he started thrashing, drooling while biting on a blanket and urinated while it was going on. We tried calming him but we couldn't get to near him. It lasted about 2-3 minutes. We kept talking to him and petting his head when he calmed down. He was unsteady on his feet for about another 2-3 minutes then he just acted normal.Actually more affectionate than normal. He ran to his food and started eating like nothing happened. What is going on? HELP!!!!!

  1. give the car 24 hours to improve.  serve only very small amounts of the food.  Could have been an allergic reaction to something it ate.  Could have found a mouse or bird with bacteria outside.  Maybe stomach flu from something it ate or the allergy.  If you see it again, ride to the vet ASAP.

  2. You need to take your cat to the vets.

  3. As everyone else had said, take him to the vet. He needs to be seen an tested to see if anything serious is going on with him. Try to think of things he may have gotten into, things that were put on him recently.

  4. Write down exactly what happened, and how he behaved, and then take him to a vet.  Sounds like a seizure, or even a stroke.  If a seizure, medication can stop them from happening again.  And if a stroke, is could have been a mini-stroke, and he will go on as normal.

  5. That is so SCARY when it first happens isn't it?

But you did good by staying calm and talking calm and petting him. this could be a few different things but most likely[my case anyway]

Toxoplasmosis You should go to your vet and explain and they will most likely draw blood for titers. Toxo is why pregnant women shouldn't change the litter box. X over placenta deformities. Maybe the titers were active for whatever reason and it triggered this seizure, it happens with my cat. There is a lot they dont know about it and it does strange things but taking him to the vet to verify it will help you know what your dealing with.

  6. im not really sure i say you should take him to the vet to see whats wrong

  7. From your description, it does sound like he has had a seizure.  Seizures are not as common in cats as dogs, but they do occur.

Seizures occur usually from injury or infection.  Many years ago, I had a kitty that had seizures.  She did just as you described.  She was very disoriented/confused as she was coming out of the episode.  After a few minutes, she would eat ravenously.  The vet said this was because of the intense energy the seizure activity uses.  For that day and usually the next day, she would hid to sleep instead of curled up with one of the other cats.

The vet never could determine the cause of her seizures, but they started just after I had a nationally known pest exterminator spray our home the first time.  They swore their chemicals were pet friendly, but I still refused to allow them to spray again.

Please schedule a wellness examination for him to ease your worries.  It would be a good idea to let the vet know about this episode.  Also let the vet know of any household plants kitty could have chewed or chemicals he could have been exposed to.

    Purrs to you and kitty.
