Help!!! I am planning an alaskan cruise. What is the best route, cruise line and to see lots of whales???

We cruised to Alaska and didn't see one whale. WE just did a cruise to New England and Canada and cruised  right through a pod of whales. I got great pictures too. A regular cruise cannot guarantee that you will see any whales.  It depends upon what the whales are doing at the ime.

Holland America Line is the longest running line in Alaska.  It has the best food too.  There are many route you can go.  Rountrip cruises are better for airfare price, but if you can go one way (Vancouver to Seward or vice versa) you get a lot more to see.

Go on NCL's Norwegian Star or Norwegian Pearl.  They leave from Seattle and cruise the inside passage the first day where you will see tons of dolphins, killer whales, and humpback whales.  You will actually see whales the whole time you're up there.  I would recommend going in early June.  That's when I went and I saw a ton of whales.  Plus, the giant Alaskan mosquitoes aren't out yet in June.

Stop planning!  I've already done all that.  I've got a group going to Alaska on the Celebrity Summit June 22-29, 2007 if you'd like to come along.  Our route is Vancouver - Seward, so if you wanted to do some pre-cruise touring in Vancouver, or visit Danali National Park at the end of the cruise that's available too.

All the Alaska routes are great as the highlights of the cruise are the scenery and wildlife.  No cruise can guarantee that you'll see a whale, either.  Please don't go with that expectation and simply consider it a plus if you do end up seeing a whale or two.  You will still have a great time.

As far as cruise lines, I would steer away from Carnival.  Celebrity is a mid-range cruise line and they do a nice job all around ( food, service, accommodations, activities, shore excursions, etc.).  If you're interested in joining the group that's going and have questions, email me at [e-mail].  If it turns out this cruise isn't for you, I can at least point you in the right direction for something that will work for you.  

BTW - Should you decide to join the group going, you don't have to associate with the group at any time, but you can still share in any benefits the group might receive from the cruise line.
