Depending on where you were born, you can usually order it through the mail.  Google the name of the state where you were born and the phrase "birth certificate".  Click on the first link that looks like an official website and follow the directions.

Just use the search bar...type in the name of the state or province where you were born, birth certificates...Example:" Alberta, birth certificates."  You will get the name of the place to contact for your birth certificate.

If it's been too long, you'll have to go to the city hall in the exact city where you were born.  I thought some places you could pay with a CC over the phone and they'd send you one.. or maybe via fax..
