  1. A) Your own milk.

    B) Researchers are still exploring the nutritional role of these substances in such diverse metabolic functions as the regulation of cholesterol, and the maintaining of proper bone density post-menopause. Evidence is accruing that phytoestrogens may have protective action against diverse health disorders such as prostate, breast, bowel, and other cancers, cardiovascular disease, brain function disorders, menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis.

    C) Some studies have found that some concentrations of isoflavones may have effects on intestinal cells. At low doses, genistein acted as a weak estrogen and stimulated cell growth; at high doses, it inhibited proliferation and altered cell cycle dynamics. This biphasic response correlates with how genistein is thought to exert its effects.

Some reviews express the opinion that more research is needed to answer the question of what effect phytoestrogens may have on infants, but their authors did not find any adverse effects. Multiple studies conclude there are no adverse effects in human growth, development, or reproduction as a result of the consumption of soy-based infant formula (SBIF) compared to conventional cow-milk formula. While it should be noted that all infant formulas are inferior to human milk, soy formula presents no more risk than cow-milk formula. One of these studies, published at the Journal of Nutrition, concludes that:

"...there is no clinical concerns with respect to nutritional adequacy, sexual development, neurobehavioral development, immune development, or thyroid disease. SBIFs provide complete nutrition that adequately supports normal infant growth and development. FDA has accepted SBIFs as safe for use as the sole source of nutrition"

More recent clinical guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics state: "there is no conclusive evidence from animal, adult human, or infant populations that dietary soy isoflavones may adversely affect human development, reproduction, or endocrine function.

    D) This is something you should discuss with your pediatrician or a pediatric nutritionist, not randoms from yahoo! answers.

    EDIT:

Your best options are Calcium-Enriched Rice Milk. Or Goat's milk (even though Goat might have the same clogging effect on the lymphatic system.)

When using Calcium-Enriched Rice Milk you will need to find another way to supplement his fat, since Rice Milk is low in fat.

  2. My mother in law has goats and we use alot of goat milk.  If you have a place to keep them they can be very beneficial.  We drink the milk, and make cheese from it . She also has a cow that we get milk from part of the year and I give it to all 3 of my children and have never had a problem.  My youngest son is actually my healthiest child and he has had more goat and fresh cow milk then the other 2 children.

  3. what about baby formula?

  4. If the baby is yours naturally and not adopted, why don't you breast feed?  Breast milk is very nutritious and optimal for health during the earliest stages of life.

If you are done breastfeeding and do not want to feed your child dairy or soy, then give them strained peas, mashed potatoes, lentils, beans, etc.

Although soy contains phytoestrogen, it doesn't have any damaging effects on developing children.  Phytoestrogen is much weaker than the animal hormone estrogen.  So you may want to look into buying a soy formula that is organic and uses non-GMO soybeans.

  5. you could give them rice milk or almond milk, which do not contain phytoestrogens.

EDIT:  i'm not sure how these translate to the nutritional needs of a 12 month old, so i would suggest consulting a professional.

  6. Your breast milk is the best as it provides many nutrients. If that is not an option try organic milk or rice milk.

  7. Most of the "studies" against soy have been sponsored by the meat & dairy industry. They are scrambling to make you think everything that is not milk is dangerous.

There is nothing wrong with soy.
