My dad found a nest of baby mice. We didn't see the mother any where. My dad had to mow the lawn so we moved the babies. We put them on a log. We put some nesting stuff on top of them to keep them warm. I came back 10 minutes later and checked on them. I looked inside and there were only 3-4! I looked on the ground and the baby was right there. I picked it up and put it back in. I moved the container some where more secure. I had to leave and came back 2 hours later and checked on them. I looked inside and they were gone! I looked every where and couldn't find them. It was either the mother came and got them or something else did. Can anyone help me? Do you think something got them or the mother came and got them? Please answer this for me!!!

  1. They were most likely eaten by something.

That's why mice have so many babies, because they are food.

    Sorry.

  2. Something may have eaten them, but maybe the mother caught their scent( Like when they are in a maze trying to find the cheese)

The mother was probally looking for food when you found the young ones. Depending on their age they could have followed their mother, or had just gotten eaten in the process.

  3. their mother was probably scared by the lawn mower but sniffed out her babies when it was safe. you might want to leave some food in a corner to see if they are staying at your house :)

  4. Don't worry =) The mother must have came by because the babies would only explore and come back to where they know it is safe, I'm sure the mother came by and led them out to a more familiar place, if not then they found her scent and did the same =)

  5. I would bet you the mom came and got them. You scared her away, but as soon as she could she got back to those babies. Most animal moms will do the same thing. It was so good of you to move them before you mowed. I think that means the mom is safe too.
