I have a total of 7 hamsters. 4 of them are boys. The girls get along just fine, but sadly the boys don't. I have had to separate them now twice. The first time wasn't so bad now I have two in one cage and two in the other. Two of my boy hamsters are badly injured. One has an open wound and the other one cannot open his eye and had swollen belly from multiple bites. Now I cared for the two injured hammers and they seem fine, eating, drinking, running etc. However the hamster that is injured the most is picking on the other hamster. What should I do, I don't have anymore cages to separate them in, and why would they be fighting if they're both hurt?

  1. syrian hamsters should NEVER be kept in a cage with other hamsters past the age of 6 weeks. you need to buy more cages and separate them.

  2. If you don't want fighting males you have to separate them.  Males are very aggresive and fight to the death.  It's a territorial thing.  Sorry.
