Help! I have headlice.

I have head lice and I'm unsure how to get rid of the EGGS.

I have been struggling a battle on and off with head lice for a few years so you can just imagine how many eggs I have. I can't pull them out individually, that'd take hours and hours. I need help ! Seriously, its the eggs, not the headlice.

  1. If you are a male, shave your head.

If you are a female, you will have to treat yourself and anyone else in your home and use a nit comb as well as go through and pull them out with fingers as the nit combs don't get all of the eggs. A hairdresser MIGHT help you take out the eggs, but you would have to call to ask... or a public health unit nurse might as well.

Also, if you have had to treat yourself often the medication you use will likely stop working. So see your doctor about other treatments.

Make sure you are spraying your bed and furniture and washing all bedding, clothes, linens and anything else you can put in the wash in hot water as well as placing the items in the dryer.

For items you cannot wash, bag them up for 2 straight weeks.

  2. Wash your hair as normal. Then put conditioner in your hair and carefully comb your hair through in sections with a lice comb. After each time you pull the comb through your hair wipe the comb on paper towel to reove the eeggs and rinse the comb in hot water. Repeat every few days. If the eggs are removed prior to hatching they will be unable to breed and therefore will not lay anymore eggs. Good luck!

  3. They sell some shampoo that gets rid of it and they give a little brush with it and thats like really small and you have to brush your hair with that and most of the eggs will come out but the rest of it you/your friend/parents have to take out...

  4. Get a good headlice shampoo that says it kills head lice and their eggs (if you have one you've been using during the last two years, STOP using it and use a different one - they may have built up a resistance). Leave the shampoo in for twice as long as it suggests. Brush then comb your hair to remove as many knots as possible, then comb them all out using a lice comb. Remember to keep the comb in contact with your scalp through your hair as much as possible so it doesn't just push them further down closer to your head. It shouldn't matter if you don't get all of them, as they'll be dead anyway, but it's best to comb out as many as possible. Comb through your entire head until you're not getting any more knots, or lice, or eggs. Then go through it another two times just to be sure.

Lice combs and shampoo are sold in chemists/pharmacies.

Also make sure you change all of your sheets/pillows/etc, wash all of your clothes, spray EVERYTHING your head has touched with anti-lice spray (also sold in chemists) to kill off any that are hanging around, and THROW OUT anything like hairbrushes and hats and get new ones. Apply anti-lice spray to your hair daily for the next month to prevent re-infection.

If you keep being re-infected, remember to check out if your friends or someone you spend time with has lice.

When I had lice a few years ago it took literally 3 hours to wash and comb all my hair. Be prepared to take time. (I would also consider cutting my hair if it's long...it takes a LONG time to comb through that much hair.)

  5. shave your head. its easy and it works
