I just purchased a Sony a200 DT18-70mm F3.5-5.6 Camera and zoom lens kit. Along with the camera I bought a DT55-200mm F4-5.6 lens. I don't really know anything about these cameras. I read customer reviews online and this seemed like a good choice for beginners like myself. The sales man at Circuit City was also clueless! I THINK I got a good deal. I paid $650 for the camera, lens and a case. Was this a waste? Did I even need the lens? He was also trying to sell me a sandisk extreme 3 memory card. Should I have bought that? Can anyone recommend a good book to help introduce me to my new toy? Thank you so much for all of your help and advice!!! :)

  1. You have a very good camera. Read the Manual in your spare time and take some pictures, you will learn. Just start out in Auto mode.

  2. Sounds like you have a great camera, but it may be more than you need as a beginner. My camera does everything I need it to do, but have had problems with batteries over the last four years. I read and study constantly, but it still has mystries beyond my grasp.  I did solve the battery problem in the last two month so am passing this along to you. Could find no one to help so hope it helps you.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic. Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual.

The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera.

Digital cameras require lots of power.  If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly.  Batteries may have a full charge, but will be viewed by the camera as low if contacts are not really good.  The LCD display is a steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; it is a heavy load.  With bad contacts, cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.

  4. My daughter has this camera, and it is a VERY good camera, and it's fairly easy to use.  Read the owner's manual.  It works very similarly to other digital cameras.  Takes GREAT shots!
