Question:

Help! I need REAL Mexican food in LONDON! Where?

I'm a Chicana (Mexican) from LA and have been living in the UK a few weeks. I've tried 3 different Mexican restaurants and they sucked! MESTIZO-overpriced, NOT authentic although some authentic recepies and rude "Latin" staff (not all Mexican like some say). I hear there is one where they have a tortilleria and make hand-made tortillas! YES, anyone know where or recommend something? NO TEX MEX please.

A Mexican bakery would be amazing too! THANKS EVERYONE!

  1. I lived in London for many years but I am from Los Angeles so I am used to being able to get decent Mexican food whenever I want it. London simply does not have good Mexican food. There are a few places that are not terrible but they are certainly not good. Your best bet is The Texas Embassy by Trafalgar Square. It's like going to a big Mexican chain like Acapulco.

The problem is that there aren't very many Mexicans in the United Kingdom so there aren't very many businesses run by them. It is also hard to find the fresh ingredients that make Mexican food so delicious.

I suggest that you learn to love Indian food. There is plenty of wonderful Indian places. Although not Indian, my rule of thumb was that the late night, post-bar burrito is replaced by the late night, post-pub kabob.

    Happy eating!

  2. How about looking at these:

  3. Have you tried Wahaca, near Covent Garden? I can't be 100% sure it is authentic, but it certainly is tasty!
