I´m not English. I studied at a Teachers' Training College where I live. I teach English in a Latin American country. My students are 9 years old and they are in year 4. I usually teach them members of the family and with this vocabulary they learn to describe each member using simple sentences such as My mother's name is Sue. She is tall and slim. The topic chosen is The Simpsons, but I´m bored with it! Could any experieced teacher give me interesting ideas to design interesting classes and activities? Please!!!! Please!!!!

  1. The Simpson's.

Have pictures of each member of the Simpson family. You could make up a board game such a snake and latter where students would have to make a sentence or read a word to advance,

Have them dramatize their favorite part of a family scene using the vocabulary studied.

    Hope this help.

  2. How about taking a high profile family (like The Beckhams) for getting relationships such as husband, wife, children, brothers. This will appeal to both boys and girls. There are plenty of photos of David and Victoria Beckham which could inspire descriptions, and further research on the internet is easy to find out about their extended families if you want to include grandparents, aunties and uncles. Role play (football and singing/fashion) would be fun for the children.
