  1. The Summer Olympics are this year.... so you could have a little stuffed Elmo doing, or dressed for,  a different sport on each table (with an American flag) .....

  2. For centerpieces, if you have stuffed Elmos, put them in the center of each table holding a bouquet of balloons!  Put his hands out in front of him and tie the string of the balloons to his hands and he can be the anchor holding down the balloons. Being he's the theme of the party.  You can get red, white, and blue balloons and have them in bunches and he can be holding them at each table.  You can do this with flowers too, but being this is a party for a 1st Birthday, balloons are much more fun and festive and the kids will LOVE seeing Elmo with the balloons!

For the place cards, you can make the cards and then get some Elmo stickers or if you have other elmos, like plastic figures, can you have them holding the cards, like standing next to the place cards and look like he's presenting them to your guests.  Put Elmo at the table and then put the place card where Elmo's hands are, if you have any Elmo's or can find any that look like he's presenting something, even better.  If you can find any Elmo clip art online, work him into it, so that he's on the place card presenting the place cards to your guests.

You can also just write out the place cards, border them in a blue or red, and then put an Elmo sticker in the bottom right corner of the place card.  That way he's still on the card and part of the card.

You can also get little Elmo figurines and have him standing at each place card, but I'm thinking that may be more than you want to spend.  What you could do is go to the dollar store or a party store and see if they have any Elmo packs like for party favors, usually they have toys that come in packs, you can see if Elmo comes in any and this way you get more than one figurine in a pack and you can put that at each setting.  Or ask your friends with little ones if they have any you can borrow for the day, just make sure that you know kids can take them, and you may have to replace an Elmo or two by the end of the day, so I would check the dollar store and party stores, even toy stores first and see if you can find a play set of Elmos.

You can even find Elmo Birthday candles and see if you can make him be the figurine, work with whatever you can find.  Check WalMart, Target, and any place you can find cheaper little Elmos that you can put at the place cards like they're holding them up.

    OR,

Just do the place cards with the stickers, and go to Michael's or other craft stores and go the scrapbooking section and find some bigger Elmo stickers, bigger than what the place cards are, and then do the place cards and place an Elmo sticker on either the left or right side of the card and you get the same effet of having the figurine, only in a sticker, being the sticker is a little bigger, it is the same effect and much less expensive!

For the centerpieces, if you don't want to do the stuffed Elmo holding balloons at each table,  You can do maybe some Elmo balloons in a cluster, or those balloons on a stick of elmo and put them in a vase and then each child can take one home after the party.

I hope some of these ideas help and I hope your child has a very, Happy 1st Birthday!!
