  1. Be a good student.  Do quality homework and turn it in on time.  Behave yourself in class and actively participate.  You should be just fine.

  2. I had a teacher who had the reputation for being the meanest teacher in school in 4th grade.  You know what?  She turned out to be the best teacher I had all through school.  She didn't play, but we learned more than I learned in any other class.  And as long as I did what I was supposed to do, she was not mean to me.  Not warm and friendly, certainly, but not mean.

  3. Find a student that "passed" a class with this teacher you are frightened of and see how they got through it.  Don't go into the class being intimidated.  Be honest, forthcoming, and ask for guidance on how to do well, even from the teacher.  If they see you are geniunely interested in learning, you won't be one of the "picked" on students that suffers the term.  If you can't do that, see the guidance counselor and try to change your schedule.  Good luck.

  4. First off: change your thinking- this is not the "meanest" teacher but the teacher demands a lot of learning. That will make it easier on you. Next- take it as a challenge. Come to class prepared ( read a chapter ahead) that way you can ask intelligent questions. Complete all asignments in a timely manner, dont gove the teacher any excuses and you will probaly find at the end of the year that the teacher isnt mean whatsoever, just sick and tired of students who goof off.

  5. It is more likely that other students are giving this teacher a rep because they have had to work harder in this class than others.  Ask the other students who have had this teacher exactly what makes s/he mean.  Is it the high expectations, harder assignments, or is it unfair grading or picking on students in class?

The best thing you can do is do what the teacher asks.  If you feel it is unreasonable, talk to the teacher individually after class.  Never confront the teacher in front of the class, because s/he may mistake this for disrespect.

Also, remember this is only one class.  You will survive.

  6. I have had many mean teachers, you need to show them who's boss, don't take their bullshit.

  7. Subjugate any desire to stand out and learn to be invisible.  Do what he requires it, how he requires it, when he requires it.  It could be as previously stated that this teacher just has high expectations, it could just as easily be that this teacher has a sadistic vein and wants to make others as miserable as he.  If the former is true, do as I and others have advised.  If the latter, do as I have advised--draw as little attention as possible.  It will pass.  You just have to try to.
