Legal experts Advice please?

Hi people

I recently stepped on a dirty syringe at work and are currently waiting test results. Obviously im very anxious about getting hep a,b,c or hiv from the needle. I work as a plumber and was called out to one of our contracts who deal with housing people with problems. However when the job was deployed no advice is giving with regards to the type of people they house. No risk assessments are giving. When I spoke to my Life insurrance company Norwich Union. They said that they do not cover people with HIV or hepititus. Im slightly confused i can understand them not covering drug addicts etc but a normal guy doing his job !!!

Hopefully results will be fine but if they are not where does that leave my family.

  1. If you didn't have HIV when you took out the life insurance, then your company cannot deny a claim if you pass away. What they probably meant when they told you that they wouldn't cover people with HIV is that someone couldn't take out a new policy with HIV.

Hopefully nothing is wrong with you.

  2. Well, if the needle was air temperature, it's going to be pretty safe from hiv.  That virus dies when it gets colder than a person.

Catching aids through work, your medical bills should still be covered through workers compensation.

Life insurance, they won't write a new policy on someone with HIV or Hep.  I'm guessing, that if you contract it AFTER the policy is taken out, and live past hte contestable period, they likely will have to pay out.  But you should talk to your AGENT to be sure.

Again, though, this is REALLY a workers comp claim, IF it even happens.

  3. You need to talk to a lawyer.

  4. your company's workers comp would cover you.
