Question:

Help! Is it my transmission??

I drive a honda accord LX 1998 (automatic), and a couple of months ago, I've noticed my car jerking a little bit when I would accellerate, and again when I go a little faster. It's not a violent jerk, but it's definitley noticable. It feels exactly like my car is a manual, and I am switching gears or something..

I know there must be a problem with my transmission. I just hope it's not something that will completely drain my bank account.

Any info helps. Thanks!

  1. Take in for an estimate> Might be a CV joint>

  2. GM cars have a vacuum modulator that controls the shifts and make them happen smoothly, if Honda uses a similar system then I suspect that is the culprit.

Look for a vacuum hose disconnected around the transmission or google "harsh shifting" for your model car and find out what component is responsible for smooth shifting, it should not be a very difficult or expensive fix.

    Good Luck!

  3. Check the transmission oil level if that's OK have the gearbox checked at a garage  this will be cheeper in the long run.

  4. it might not be the tranny, it might be just a dirty gas filter, they act like that.
