Question:

Help! Just saw a roach?

I live in a townhome (not an apartment). Went to our kitchen to get a glass of water, and spotted a roach run across my counter. It went behind the stove but eventually came out and we got it. I heard that once you see one.. there are probably many that you don't see. Our kitchen is clean so I'm pretty upset. We had a kitchen sink leak a few months ago which molded the piece of wood beneath it, which we removed (there is now just a slab of concrete beneath sink) so I'm wondering if that's where it came from. Should we call an exterminator or do you think RAID would do the trick? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! I'm so freaked out right now...

  1. For sanitary reasons I would probably call an exterminator..........or you can just buy some roach-killing food in Wal-Mart! THAT'S what we did when there were rats in my garage...........got rid of ALL of them.

  2. Unfortunately, welcome to living in urban America. Most of what people said is true, there are 2 major options.

    1) call an exterminator and pay alot - live out of your place for a few days while the fumes die down

*if you live in an apartment complex, this may not be an option, check with your landlord

This will kill the roaches for a while, but they will ultimately return especially if you live in an apartment complex

    2) buy a Lowe's/Home depot killer and keep your place clean. This will keep the roaches at bay but for a shorter time and no guarantee that it will work.

Pretty much what I'm saying, is sorry but the best thing that you can do is learn to deal with it. This is especially true in a more urban, apartment building type area. There are only 2 things that will survive Armageddon, cockroaches and twinkies. Learn to deal with them and keep your place clean, hopefully you can keep them out of sight. I personally recommend the Lowe's/Home Depot trap to keep them out of sight but the proper answer to your question, is nothing will ever get rid of them (besides living in a bubble). Welcome to Urban America

*My parents built a new house, and are extremely clean, within 2 months they saw a cockroach. Have never seen one since, but cockroaches exist everywhere.
