Help! Kitten problems.?

My cat gave birth to two kittens on Sunday. One girl and one boy. I've noticed that the boy has a hard time finding the nipple, but he still drank. Today, he's been a little weak. He tries to drink from the nipple, but his head drops. We talked to a vet and they gave us some formula, a bottle with a tiny nipple, and a perscription of amoxi*drop. I got him to take some, but he's still not taking enough. I'm scared. Do you think he has a problem swallowing? What should I do? Thanks.

  1. ok well try helping the kitten by holding its head up to get it sand when its older it will have the musle to do it but use fomula too ansd try to feed it as much as u can!

  2. I think that hes weak and it hurts to keep his head up for long periods of time, next time you bottle feed him pick him up, with his back towards the ground and belly towards you, let'em rest his head, and make sure he gets plenty of sleep, and to make sure he grows and is healthy rub his back, belly, neck and head gently, this also works for human babies, but the next time you feel that he is strong enough to drink from his mother be sure to have a small pillow with you, so he can lean on that while drinking.

I hope that helps, and good luck to you and the kitty.

  3. let nature take its course, if the male dies then it was supposed to.

  4. A kitten that young would only be drinking a half tablespoon of milk at a time, their stomachs are very small.  Every 3 hours they eat,so you can help the mother by feeding the smallest kitten every few hours.

  5. I never have a problem finding a nipple...I'm just saying that you did the right thing going to the vet. Ask him he's your best source.

  6. Are you just letting him feed on his own or are you actually helping to feed ie taking him to his mother every hour?  It sounds to me that he is what is called the runt of the litter (even though there are only two) he was the one born last, the weakest of the litter ... usually these animals turn out to be the best animals in terms of looks and temperament .... so do your best to help him survive .... because he's not feeding well he doesn't have a lot of strength - and he's probably cold too because he has no body fat ... you need to make sure he's warm and comfortable and that he feeds every hour on the hour until he starts improving.... I'd say take him to his mother and see how he gets on - if he doesn't feed well on his mother then you need to start supporting his feeding by feeding him the formula the vet gave you ... when you use the bottle with him make sure the nipple is fully in his mouth and gently squeeze a little as he feeds ... this will help with his intake of food and may encourage him to feed better ....
