I'm writing a book that takes place during the eighteenth century and it takes place within the royal court of the UK. I'm trying to find a website all about what they wore, how they talked, all about the proper kind of curtsying and addressing people and all that kind of stuff. I Googled it and can't find anything on my own! Any suggestions? PLEASE HELP!

  1. http://www.amazon.com/Regency-Etiquette-...

check out this book at your library

  2. wikipedia

  3. There's not much specifically on the net that I can find.  Bear in mind that the 18th century saw three King Georges on the throne from 1714, the Hanoverians, and fashions changed throughout the century.

I've appended some sites that might help, but I strongly advise you to go to the library where you might pick up some interesting books in the History section.

Meanwhile, you might like to read f***y Burney's writings, especially her Journals; she lived in the Court of George III.

    http://www.royalty.nu/Europe/England/Han... (Recommended books here also)

http://www.georgianindex.net/ (Might help, but it's mainly about the Regency)

    f***y Burney: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanny_Burne...

    http://books.google.co.uk/books?hl=en&id... (I think from about page 236)

Big site on costume in the 18th century, and interesting links:

Some extra information you might like to pursue:

For light reading and for an authentic feel for the period, you might like to read Georgette Heyer's 18th century novels, which include These Old Shades, The Masqueraders and Powder and Patch.

  4. Your best bet would be to read books that were written/take place in the 1700s. Books take so much research!

  5. Make it up, it's fiction after all, I'm sure you can figure out the basics.
