Also we have lots of big windows that open side to side not up and down so a window A/C unit isn't gonna work here. I'm wondering what other INEXPENSIVE options we have aside from fans in the window or tin foiling my views. Is there such a thing? Am i just kidding myself?? Help!

  1. Don't know where you are located but check with your local code enforcement  or housing authority. where we live in florida rentals are required to have a/c units provided by the landlord. As for A/c in the sliding windows  look for a casement style unit. They are designed  for side-by-side windows.

  2. A portable ac.  Have one in a room that has sliding windows.

  3. a fan with a bowl of ice behind it helps cool and circulate the air.

or pick up a Portable Air Conditioner from wal mart for about 270$

  4. They make portable roll around air condition ing units that simply need an exhaust, and no need for  a drain like a common ac as they are dripless and get rid of moisture through the exhaust. They exhaust through common dryer vent and are fairly effective.  and can be placed anywhere in your rental, as long as its fairly close to a window or sliding glass door.

  5. Go buy at least 2 box fans,  4 is better.  Have 2 drawing the air in from the outside and on the oppisite side of the room have 2 drawing the air from inside the room and blowing back outside....This is creating a draft or flow of air to remove the heat.. If all your fans are drawing the air from outside to the inside,,, the air has to find its own way out ,,,, which is usually the door... good luck...(ps)  also to cool you down...get a "T" shirt and complete soak it in water,  put it back on and sit in front of the fan.
