Help My 2 parakeets bite hard enough to where it draws blood????

How do I get them to stop when I go to change their food they bite as hard as they can what do I do??????????

  1. They are probably just scared. Did you just get them? They are most likely not used to hands in their cage and are just defending themselves.

  3. It sounds like they're just terrified of you.  Are they new?

    Take your time and be very patient.  You have to earn their trust.  Spend a few times a day just slowly putting your hand in the cage so that they get used to it.  Eventually they should learn that your hand is the "thing" that feeds them.

    I don't know if it's something you're interested in, but you could try doing a search for "clicker training birds".  When we rescued a cockatiel he was very scared of everything!  He would bite and lunge at us - it was awful.  After only a week of clicker training him he's already stepping up onto my hand and taking treats out of my fingers.
