  1. You need to supply him several shells so he can choose the one he feels most comfortable in.    They also choose and move into the new shells when its dark.   You most likely wont see him do the switch.

  2. its useless! they do wat they want. i had 4 hermit crabs they all died they killed each other. but jst leave the cage in the dark more. they wil be more likely to move if they feel like they arent being watched

  3. i know what you mean, i had two hermit crabs, one would always move into different shells like every other day, but the other one never changed shells he stayed in his little shell his whole life. Anyways i think it matters what you hermit crabs personally is, some like to move and others like to stay in the same shell, maybe yours just loves his shell to much, haha:)

    hope i helped

  4. you need to supply your hermit crab with a selection of shells not just one at a time. you should really have 20 ish shells of different sizes and shapes so he can pick 1 hes comfortable with

  5. yeah they are stubborn little things. You can't force him to move. He probably doesn't like that new shell. It may smell funny (to him), be too big, or he simply doesn't like it. When we had hermit crabs, I would always keep 2 or 3 different shells, of all shapes and sizes, in the tank. Always wash, rinse and dry them well before placing them in the tank. Make sure you keep the room warm and dark at night so they feel more secure/safe to move. GL!
