Question:

Help! My baby hamsters are losing fur?

My roborovski hamsters are 26 days old. Initially, they started out fine and the fur was growing but currently, they look like they're balding!

I usually feed them their usual hamster food and additional french beans everyday. Could the french bean be the problem?

Thank you

  1. Call a vet and ask what is going on.

  2. Well, if you feed your hamsters beans everyday, then it might not be healthy...but I don't think that's the reason of the fur loss.

Perhaps your hamster is allergic to the bedding material, or perhaps they have mites which often causes hair loss in young hamsters, or perhaps your hamster is inbred which is also a cause.

So first thing you do is, switch to carefresh NOT pine wood shavings, and give your hamsters fresh food everyday (don't give veggies or fruits every day...once in a week is best) and always give them fresh water.

I would also advice you to take them to a vet because your hamster is really very young....sounds like he just weaned.

EDIT: Sorry about that..I mean NOT pine..

    lol

Yes, pine is dangerous because they can cause respiratory problems.

You might want to use recyclable newspaper...they are good.
