Question:

Help! My cat is hissing at her sister after a hospital stay. How long is this going to resolve itself?

It's been week since Boo (female 2 year old cat) came back from her two day hospital stay (was vomiting). She is better now, but Tink (her sister and litter mate) is still hissing and growling at her. It's sad because they were inseparable before the hospital stay. I wonder how long this behavior will last? I tried the plug-ins, putting a towel on each cat and swapping for awhile, etc. Is there anything else I should be doing?

  1. I had the SAME exact problem with my two cats! I think it's just because of the cats smell of when they come back from the vet. Trust me, they'll adapt to it and get over in in about 5 days.

  2. Its probably the smell.  My cat growled and hissed for two days when a friends dog came for a visit.  He smelled the dog on my dog and wouldn't play with him anymore.  I got out some odor control and sprayed the carpet and furniture with it and my cat calmed down almost immediately.  I would sponge the cat that went to the hospital with some sort of dry shampoo to remove all the smell and see what happens.  Good luck

  3. It's just the smell of the hospital. Your cats should be back to normal before too much longer. I'd wait at least 2 weeks before  getting worried. You shouldn't have to do anything about it. This is a natural reaction and will naturally dissipate on it's own.
