I have zero money for a vet visit right now. Zero. Too long of a story to explain on that one... My 2 year old cat Buster had a blockage in his urinary tract a month ago, after hospitalization, catheters, and meds his bill was over $500. Then my lab had to be put to sleep, ugh..another $200. I can't pay for anything...so please. He seems to be blocked again..crouched and barely peeing. Is there ANYTHING i can do to help???? Please don't be mean right now, I cannot handle it. I normally have money to support my pets but I have had multiple deaths and family issues this year, I can't control this. Can I give him anything over the counter? The vets will not see him w/o cash.

  1. I'm sorry he has a blockage again and I'm wondering if it might be the food he's eating.  I would certainly talk to the vet about it.  Also, when you took him the last time when he had a blockage, did they give him medication for it?  Since you can't afford an office visit, you might can get the meds from them without him being seen by the doctor.  Wouldn't hurt to call and see.

  2. Is this cat on CD or some similar type of food.? If so then he should not be getting blocked again. If he is not totally blocked then pushing fluids would be a good step. If he is blocked then there is nothing you can do other than take him to the vet. I think you know that already as I am sure the vet told you what can happen if he is not treated. There is nothing that you can give him from over the counter that will help. You need to set up a payment plan with the vet and take him in. Also you need to look into why he would get blocked again so quickly. Sometimes we all have a run of bad luck and you just have to do what you have to do. Your cats life depends on what you do now.

**********Elle, I understand how you feel, but what are you going to do about the cat?

  3. i would say the least you could do for your poor baby is to atleast call the vet. explain your story to them and they should help in the best way they can. i understand that you cant pay but call them noww, as you read this! he is getting closer to dying every time something isnt done. the longer he is blocked, the less time he has. im sorry. i know you cant afford it but go to the vet! for the sake of his life

  4. You know that this can kill right

I do not know if it is too late but you need to stop feeding dry foods. They are the reason for this. The system needs water and dry food dehydrates.. Right now I would feed some plain yogurt and/or watered down canned foods with no gravy. Stop feeding kitty crack. get him to eat and especially drink. Best of luck

  5. Im sorry, but the only thing that will save him now is a urinary catheter. If NO pee is coming out, he is blocked. And the poor cat can only be like this for about 48 hours until he will die. A vet could cysto your cat (sticking the bladder from outside) and release the urine, but you cannot do that at home. He must have a urinary catheter put in. You should talk to your vet about what foods your cat should be on. You probably need to change his diet, but that will not help him now if he cannot pee.

  6. I know how you feel.  There must be a human society near you.  Attached to the humane society is a vet.  They are more apt to work with you and are much cheaper than a regular vet as they get some support from the humane society.

Go there, work out whatever you can.  But there is a decision you must make.  If you baby, that little bundle of love, is going to take you down with you, you have to make a decision.

I had a decision to make like this.

I had a cat named B.J., his problem would never go away, it was a constant trip to the vet.  I just could not continue to afford it.  I came to the conclusion is was best for both of us and I put him down.  I was a wreck for over six months.  I am crying thinking about it now.  But I had to do it.  My baby now, Leo, he got sick, my daughter gave him pure cream.  His liver shut down.  They wanted to do surgery and it would have cost me over one thousand dollars.  I asked what else could I do.  They said they would put a tube down his throat and I would have to feed him this liquid diet with a syringe down the tube.  He fought me.  I looked like I was in a cage with lions I was scratched all over.  I feed him like this for two months and he came back and we took the tube out.  He is still with me.

You have to make some decisions.

  7. Well theres not much you could do...You could try to put down a nice soft blanket down on the floor and just let him/her rest!! Or another thing that MIGHT just work...Take a towel or paper towel or anything get it hott..not too hot just a little bit over warm and just pat his/her belly with it! or just lay the towel or paper towel on him/her. That could work!! :]]

  8. "Is there ANYTHING i can do to help???? "

There is NOTHING you can do at home. I'm sorry. You are going to have to take him to the vet. If you do nothing and he is blocked... he will likely die. Every second you delay more and more damage is being done to his kidneys. I'm sorry, but you have no choice. Get him to an ER vet now so they can cath him and save him from a very painful condition.

  9. You should ask Petmart, they always take care of adoptable cats, so they may give you a great advice. You should check store locator of Petmart website:http://stores.petsmart.com/petsmart/

If you cannot take care of your cat, you need to ask them.

  10. If you have a regular vet they may have a payment plan for you, plus some Vets have a charity who can donate some of the money please don't make him suffer... call the vet get answers, they are human they will tell you what they can do.  Maybe just a refill of the meds? Call the VET please I URGE YOU!

  11. Hello,

I work at a animal hospital. There is nothing you can do from home and he will die in 24 hours with out treatment. I'm in Ca, and alto of the vets have something called care credit. Its a financing company that works with the clients. Its really easy to get approved, interest free, and you can make 10 dollar a month payments. If all else fails try getting ahold of care credit and see if they work with any vets in your area.

Another thing you may want to consider is surgery. Usually when a male cat has a history of getting blocked, it is going to be a continual problem. There is a surgery called P U surgery. (people call it the cat s*x change surgery) It is costly, (maybe around 800 dollars) But a few blockages will easily add up to that.  In that surgery they shorten the urethra, the part that gets blocked, and that will stop the problem from happening. If you can get financed for that, it will save you alot of money on the long run.
