  1. Examine him for a comprehensive list of signs and symptoms, then call the vet and ask; they will usually consult over the phone, if it's something fairly basic that doesn't necessarily require an exam.  If he becomes worse, you should definitely take him to the vet.  They''re tough, but when injured, they can crash in a big hurry, and their organs are extremely vulnerable to degrading under stress.

  2. Get a damp (warm) wash cloth and wipe him off.  Smell the "sticky" to see if it smells like oil, antifreeze, etc.  If it's antifreeze (green), and he licks it, he'll DIE..........

He could have been in a fight, and the "sticky" is blood or saliva from the other animal.  I hope he's current on all of his immunizations!  If he's being allowed to roam around outdoors, he REALLY NEEDS to have them!

While you're wiping him off, check to see if there are any bite wounds.  If there are, they need to be cleaned and doctored (Neosporin ointment) immediately.

    Hope he's OK.........Good luck.

  3. He has been roughed up by a 'playmate' or a fight.  Check him for injuries and use a wet washcloth to remove the sticky.  My youngest came in with a 4 inch tear in his skin when he was small enough for that to be from his shoulder to his chest (right behind his left front leg).   He didn't think it was a big deal, but the humans who love him insisted in taking him to the vet.  He got several stitches and some antibiotics.  Now we can't even find the scar.  For smaller injuries, Neosporin is good, but keep it thin.  Cats and dogs will l**k injuries when they itch.  Watch for swelling, cats tend to abscess because of their loose skin.   A vet will need to tend an abscess.  Otherwise your adventurer should be fine in a day or two.

  4. He has been in a fight! just keep an eye on him.
