Help. My daugter's laptop is infected with Antivirus2009 and XP Antivirus.

Question

Tried all the recommendations available on the internet help webs. Administrator is locked, task manager blocked, automatic updates blocked and wont let me down load any of the malware protection. AND IT'S THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS. Anyone any ideas? Thanks a mil x

The best thing to do would be use another PC to download a "Stinger" from Norton or Symantec and put it onto floppy disk or CD Rom.  This should let you do a scan before booting into windows, and find the virus & repair or quarantine it.

If you can't do this, you could try buying a new antivirus that has a bootable CD - there are some that can do a scan before booting Windows which should find any virus you have.

Well i was infected with this aswell and to be honest i could not get rid of it !

i tried all of the anti-virus scanners an spyware aswell.

But to make a long story short i just done system restore and that seemed to fix it :)

This is drastic but you can reformat. If not here is what I would do.

GO THERE!!! This disc is excellent for all those problems that drive you crazy and a total format is out of the question. Also i am not going to preach I have a daughter and I know this one is hard. Save early save often. Backup the pics, songs, documents, and bookmarks you want onto a cd once or twice a week. If you need any help with a specific problem let me know I can prolly talk you thru it if you can get past my Texas accent.

It is a rogue anti-spyware program similar to the well known XP Antivirus rogue application.

Download and install SmitfraudFix

After you download and install restart your PC in safe mode with networking

Double-click on the SmitfraudFix.exe icon then follow the screen instructions. Option #2 should be selected in this case.

When you are prompted with “Do you want to clean the registry ?”, simply answer “Y”.

While in safe mode you should download, install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes

Superantispyware has some repair tools to fix task manager etc - use a friend's computer if you can't download directly.

Your PC is probably infected with adware & spyware if:

     * You have downloaded music online

     * Your PC is running extremely slow

     * You are pestered by those horrible popup ads

     * Your homepage keeps changing

Don't let people invade your privacy and slow down your PC!

If so, then take a few moments to download anti-spyware software to get rid of spywares and get rid of adwares if your computer is infected.

If you do not want to reformat the hard disk, the only option is to use ClamWin.

ClamWin is a Free Antivirus for Microsoft Windows

that uses the GNU General Public License by the Free Software

Foundation and is free (as in freedom) software.

There is a portable version of ClamWin where it can be install into an USB thumb drive.

Mine is install in a 128 MB USB drive.

First use another PC to download Clamwin portable anti-virus

and install Clamwin portable on a USB thumb drive.

Update the latest anti-virus definition files.

Set the preferences to delete or move virus to a quarantine folder.

Boot up in safe mode on the infected PC.

If possible, disable system restore on the infected PC.

Use the USB drive with Clamwin Anti-virus installed to scan the infected PC.

Scan the memory and all hard drives for viruses.

I have fixed about 6 PC's with this infection in the past couple of weeks. AdAware 2008 will detect it and get rid of it and its totally free for download.com

If you can't download it, get someone else to and burn it to CD or on to a pen drive and then run it on your PC.

just do not under any circumstances get your credit card out.

i'd be willing to email you the program you need to clear it if you want??

also, CCleaner will get rid of any other traces of it. you can download it from the same place.

let us know how you get on....  but you definately do not need to pay money to get this fixed or reformat your PC. thats just drastic.
