The sofa, the floor, the bed, my husband, me... he just will not stop! It isn't a "once in a while" thing, he pees on thing almost everyday! I have tried everything... restricting his water, bathroom break every 15 min, positive re-enforcement, negative re-enforcement. He is nutered and around 10 months old and he is a beagle. I don't know if this is a housebreaking issue or an obedience issue or even if it is a medical issue. All I know is that my sofa and my rug are on their last legs and my steam cleaner is working on overtime. I just can't deal with it anymore. Has anyone had to deal with this? What do I do?

  1. Well i will give you a tip..on how i housetrained my dog..this may sounds cruel but is wat the vet tld me to do. She said that whenever he pees i should rub his nose in it and tell him bad boy or girl and than put them outside.,and she said if that doesnt do the trick smack him on the nose (lightly) than rub his nose in it than take him outside...if he pees while you are outside with him give him lots of attention and a treat or something to let him kno that, that was a very very very great thing to do...and if he pees while he is out there mention potty outside or something like that. and also when you are inside and it is his time to go outside tell him lets go outside and go potty things like that and if he goes potty outside give him attention and treats!

  2. Start with a vet check, to make sure he isn't sick. Then, crate your dog when you are not able to watch him. He won't mess in the crate, as he won't want to lay in it.When you do let him out of the crate, take him out immediately and make sure he does his business. Praise him for peeing in the right place. When you take him back in, place him back in the crate until you can watch him.

Don't give him free access to water and don't give him more than a few ounces at a time. Beagles are small dogs, so they don't need gallons of water. Some dogs even get a bit neurotic with drinking water and can even develop a syndrome of over indulging. This happened with my female American Bulldog. She would pee in her sleep! The vet called it Psychogenic something, meaning it all started in her mind. He told us to limit her water intake after 6 PM . It has worked so far and she is fine.

I know it is sad to see your dog crated or restricted, but it is also sad to have your home turned into a Pee Palace. Don't feel bad about trying to retrain your dog. He will be happier for it and so will you!

Once he is not peeing everywhere, let him have a bit more freedom, but do not let him have the run of the house until he is not lifting his leg everywhere. Some professional training might be a good idea as well.Good luck.

  3. Hvae you discussed this with your vet??? If not, you will NEVER know if it is a medical issue...

If, however, her has been doing this since you got him, it is a training issue. He is obviously NOT housebroken.

GO to a certified trainer and get some instruction.

GOod luck...dog pee is a pain in the ***.....isn't it??? THank the good Lord. all 4 of mine (including a beagle) are properly housebroken.

  4. Keep him on a leash wherever you go. Also crate him when you're gone.
