Help! My kitchen sink is plugged!?

I have a double sink in my kitchen, and its been plugged for two days now. We've tried everything, from the baking soda and vinegar to buying products to unclog it, and there is no plumber available. Is there anything else we can do to unclog it, until we get a plumber?

  1. I rated Christop's reply with a thumbs up.

You can try plunging it or using a snake but you have harmful chemicals in there already so PROTECT your EYES!! when messing with it.

  2. Christopher has the right idea. You must wear rubber gloves when removing the pea trap to avoid chemical burns caused by the drain cleaners you put in. Have a bucket sitting under the pea trap when removing it so whatever is in the pipe can drain into the bucket. You can also grab your shop-vac and form a seal with the hose and your hands or a towel and suck whatever is in the drain line going into the wall right out. Just remember to empty it out and rinse it good outside to avoid a nasty mess later. Avoid the hose idea as you will inevitably get blow back from that and cause a nasty mess and may even blind yourself with the chemicals.

  3.   It's possible to use a garden hose with rags wrapped around the end with someone who is strong holding it down in the drain and having the faucet opened sometimes works but you can wind up with a wet kitchen and big mess if it's not done properly.

  4. You can try removing the trap. The U shaped piece of pipe and check it. If it is clear you can try  using a bladder in the drain pipe. These are available at many hardware stores. Home Depot and such. This is a very useful little tool. You hook it up to the garden hose and the pressure forces out the clog. However you need to get the right size. Take the old trap with you and ask for help. Use caution for water blow back especially if you used chemical drain cleaners these are caustic and can also cause blindness. Where safety glasses. If the chemicals get on your skin wash with plenty of soap and water.    Good Luck!
