Firstly he bites and scratches when we try to stroke him, which we tried to resolve by letting him come to us and only stroking him until he starts getting violent. Sometimes he violently pounces on us when we sit watching TV, though sometimes he comes for cuddles purring loudly and even falls asleep on either of us. Secondly I cannot seem to get him litter trained! He always goes in the same corner so we put his litter tray there and he went next to it on the floor! he goes on paper occasionally and so i put this in his tray on top of his litter, to no avail - he went back to the corner next to the tray not on the paper.Thirdly, he seems to be making the house smell a little downstairs is there anything to sort this out? we cant keep airing the room as pretty soon he will be able to get out the window and he isnt old enough to go out yet (hes nearly 8 weeks old) ive tried catnip (the spray) for the litter tray but he doesnt seem to like it. I got him from my fiances daughter who's cat had him so i know he isnt a wild cat or anything! He's got a scratching pole and various toys, so i know that isnt the problem.

please help anyway you can, I am really losing my patience with him!!!

Thanks!

  1. he is still too young to be away from him mother, it is the mother that teaches the young to use the box!!!!

  2. He's too young to be away from his mother.he's turned into a juvenile delinquent. He'll be smoking before too long.

  3. The litter tray might be too big for him to climb into at this age, or he might not like the kind of litter you use.  Is it the same as he had at his previous home?

As for the rest, he will outgrow it.  Just be patient and give him love when you can.  Getting him neutered as soon as your vet will do it will help with the odor and such.

    Good luck!

  4. Ok, First is he neutered? That is one of the reasons that he is crazy. He is being territorial and controlling. He is small and your hand (to him) is big. Like it is going to hurt him. Are you being too controlling yourself?  Pushing him around when he is bad. It is going to take a really long time to get him to use the kitty litter box. Put it some where he can find it fast. When he looks like he is going to pee or something like that when quickly put him in the litter box. If you miss it and he goes on the floor say no and carfully put his face close to where he did it and put him in the litter box quickly after. Clean that spot where he went really well. I mean really well. If they smell where they went on the floor they will go there again like it is there box.

He has so much energy he doesn't know what to do with it. When he gets older it will go away. He will get calmer. Play with him every day for about an hour. Have fun! Get one of those electric moving mice and play. It will where him out and he will be calmer.

    Hope this helps!

  5. I think you need to just give him a little more time to mature.  He is still a baby.  My cat was "mean" for like the first year and now he is like 3 years old and a total sweetheart.  The litter training should come in due time.

  6. Well for your first question to get him to stop biting you as soon as he starts to get violent hit him on the nose and firmly tell him off to let him know that he shouldn't be doing this and secondly what I did with my cat when he was a kitten is as soon as he had eaten I would put him straight in his tray and when he looked like he was about to go on the floor I would quickly pick him up and then put him in his tray and thirdly you could go into a pet store and ask if they have anything to get rid of litter tray odours. Hope I helped oh and by the way make sure that you play with him frequently because then he wont get bored, and I have found that kittens that aren't' played with aren't as nicer when they are older.

  7. i have a kitten i have kitten books in the kitten books when a cat does something wrong it suggests getting a water sprayer, keeping it to hand and then spraying the kitten with the water. i thought that this was a bit cruel at 1st as cats hate water but it really seems to do the trick,go on try it what you got to loose.

make sure what he/she is doing is really wrong though, dont just spray it for playing and being a kitten .

    good luck x

  8. throw him out but anyway thats what cats do

  9. Well when kittens are younge they do that. you just have to get used to it and leave your cat alone.

  10. I did have a feral cat, that was also to a known house cat. Just because she wasn't born outside, doesn't mean she isn't a little wild. Kittens react to handling, and the more the better. We were scratched and bitten for months (and our usually affectionate cat now aged 11 still sometimes bites for no apparent reason). Handling is the best advice I can give, the more they are picked up, the calmer thay become. However, you should also be aware that some cats have extremely sensitive skin, and over stroking can result in them suddenly attacking as a reaction, almost like us kicking our legs out if someone tickles us - or at least that's the closest analogy I can think of. If this is the case, try to avoid stroking too much on the back and sides, around the head will be tolerated far better - scratching gently under chin and behind ears for example. As regards litter training, most cats pretty much train themselves. Is it a large tray, with a good 1/2 inch at least of litter? Try Pura moonlight clumping litter. It has a lovely lavender fragrance that our cat seems to be attracted to (she too doesn't like cat nip) Cleaning the tray is very important. Scoop out all wet spots and faeces as soon as you notice them and empty and clean tray every few days - remember, cats love clean smells, so use a heavily diluted bleach to clean the tray, and spray anywhere she does mess with pepper spray or an odour remover after cleaning. Unfortunately though, some cats just don't like litter trays, and you will find that when she is old enough to go outside she will simply use the garden, until then, I'm afraid you'll just have to put up with it.

  11. The keyword here is that your /kitten/ is driving you mad.

Your kitten is just trying to play with you. Most kittens play by play-fighting. Your kitten is not being violent with you either He's just playing. He doesn't know any better, and he'll grow out of it. Especially if he's not even 8 weeks old yet.

  12. Kittens do little more than eat, sleep, and play.  His "attacking you" is his version of playing.  Cats practice pouncing, grabbing, clawing, catching, etc. as a means to hone their skills as hunters.  It is instinctive, and has little to do with them being intentionally violent.  It's simply what kittens do, and unfortunately, it's just part of their personality.  A playful, active kitten will grow into a playful, active young cat.  You've got a couple of years of this to deal with.  Some cats grow out of it as they become adults.

Many kitties learn to use the litter box by watching mom.  If this kitten was taken from mom too early, that could explain why he never learned litter box lessons.  You'll need to monitor him closely and catch him while he is "in the act".  Place him in the litter box every time.  If he poops outside the box, pick up the p**p and put it in the litter box.  Leave it in there for a day or so.  Maybe he'll get the point.

Don't lose your patience with him.  He's just doing what cats do.  If you don't like it, do yourself and the cat a favor and give him to a cat rescue or a rescue shelter.

  13. my friend has a kitten/cat and i have been to his house and even those he gets iritatted  by it he still loves it beecause its like famly to him.ex like a little bro he bothers u till no end but some times u just have to love him

  14. With the litter training issue, if he is going to places again and again to use as the toliet do not move the litter tray to those places, keep it in the same place, not too far away from where he plays and sleeps that way he cannot get caught short!! With the places he does go to the toilet in i would suggest buying a citrus spray or leaving some orange peels there as cats absolutly hate citrus.

To get him litter trained i am unsure as the mother is meant to do this, have you tried catching him before he goes and putting him in it or maybe straight after put him in there, also he might not like the litter you are using, try a different type, change the texture, smell or something.

With him attacking you, he is probably just playing, if he hurts you tap him on his nose to tell him no. Try playing with him, getting him lots of toys so he tires himself out and gets out all his Kitty angst on the toys.

I hope i have helped. Good luck with him, let me know if you need any more help =)

  15. He is just playing you need to show he right from wrong if he scratches you or claws you lock him up in the bathroom for an hour or half-hour

Don't spray him, he will like your more like the enemy if you do

  16. he just wants to play when he pounces on you. do you have toys for him if not i would getsome for him.  for his litter problem dig his paws into it thats what i did for my kittens.

  17. Kittens usually don't have a problem being litter trained.  It really sounds like your kitten is feral.

Make sure the litter is kept clean, and physically put him in the box. Has the box been reused from a previous cat?

Also you may try to keep it out of that room until you break the habit.

I would take the kitten to a vet to make sure there isn't something physical wrong with the kitten and to discuss the behavior.

  18. They have litter to help litter train your kitty, but as for the biting, he is only playing. Kittens do that. It should mellow a bit after it is fixed.

  19. I have a kitten too he wants to play try corpral cuddling it works

  20. How long have you had this kitty?  8 weeks is only two weeks away from when he could be separated from his mum (earliest 6 weeks).

His behaviour seems perfectly normal, your behaviour seems to be a little unreasonable.

If you don't want to him to mark his territory wash the areas he soiled with bleach and douse with pine or lemon scent.

Basically he's a little too young to train and should have been left with mum a little longer.

    So he are the tips,

give him his own space to spray in.  He's male so he needs to mark territory until he can be castrated,  He will pounce cos that what kitties do, it is the hunting instinct.  Older neutered cats calm down a lot, kittens are wild and playful (playful often equating to little sharp claws digging in ).  You are doing right by letting him come on his terms.

Lots and lots of patience needed.  The tray thing would have been resolved if he had stayed with his mom, as they teach the kittens.  As it is lots of patience and pine/lemon spray.

  21. Hes 8 weeks old.Hes not really old enough to drive you mad.You thought owning an animal was a walk in the park? Its work and patience.Just keep trying to train him he may not be house trained til hes like 4 or 5 months old and guess what ? It may happen later than that. Its a baby. Its not ready. In the mean time it will stink up your house. Some of the smells will never come out.Its a cat. Cats like to scratch. It may never use that scratching post and eventually tear up your furniture.Thats why I dont have any animals.
