Okay I've had this Sword Tail literally from birth. I raised her in my tank. But now, she isn't swimming around, she's just lying at the bottem of the tank. She has the white stuff on her sides and on the top of her head. Also on the top of her head is a hole or something!! Help!! Please respond quickly, I need help! Others of my fish have been dying too!

  1. Ich looks like little grains of salt sprinkled on the fish.  Is that what you mean by white stuff?  Or does it look more like fuzzy bits of wool?  Because the latter is fungus, not ich.  Ich is a parasite, fungus is an infection.  It could also be columnaris.  Each requires a different treatment.  Your fish might also have "Hole in the Head" from what you say, although that is primarily a betta disease.  You need to look these diseases up and see which best suits your fish's symptoms so you can select the best treatment.  I suggest you use Google.  In the meantime, quarantine your fish from the others and add a little aquarium salt or sea salt to its water.  Just make sure it's non-iodized salt (NOT table salt).  Don't just trust a pet store employee as they are there to sell you something and most won't suggest the right medication if they don't have it in stock!  Good luck, but I'm afraid your fish sounds pretty far along.

  2. Could be ich. I've never had to deal with ich so look up on google and see what medication a swordtail needs, and get it asap. If your fish is in with other, seperate it into another tank/container.

  3. White spot is when they have sugar grain like white spots on any part of her body....

If the white patches look slimy it is most likely slime disease which is usually due to poison or poor water quality.... is she flicking or rubbing herself against the stuff in her aquarium? Habging close to the water surface?  breathing quickly? Red sore like patches on her skin?

Its usually caused by parasites which attack fish in low numbers so its normally easy to deal with... but do a water change, if the water is bad, your fish will stress more and is therefore unlikely to survive... You can buy slime disease treatment from any good aquatics store....

Hole in the head syndrome is usually caused by an internal parasite/poor water quality/aquariums with under gravel filters but no-one really knows, try looking it up on the internet i dont know too much about it apart from the fact it usually affects larger fish like Oscars.

It is most probably an ulcer which would explain why she is listless and sitting at the bottom of the tank, again this can be bought on by poor water quality so do a water change and buy some anti internal bacteria, the pet shop advisor can tell you which is the best and tell you how to treat both diseases at the same time....

Really hope your fish gets better soon, and i hope i could help... my fish had slime disease and matched your description perfectly and he managed to survive after a scary few days. Good Luck x*x

  4. Your fish have ICK it is a common among fish. If it is not treated they will die. Local stores sell ICK AWAY. It is a treatment you put directly into the water. But I must say it might be a tad too late.

  5. your fish has ick most likely the other fish have been dying from it to. put the fish in a hospital tank and go to your local petstore and ask if they have ick away.

  6. Sorry about your lil fishy. Your fish could have Hole-in-the-Head disease. Check out this link for more info as I am not familiar to this disease.

PS - As per the person above me PLEASE do not use Iodized salt or table salt. You have to use Aquarium Salt that you can purchase at any fish store that sells Salt Water Fish.

  8. hurry your fish might die go to petco petsmart or walmart. I would go to petsmart.

  9. Go to your local fish store say the symtoms and get your medications. Sounds like a fungus to me with hole-in-the head disease. Sorry!! Also take out the other fish !!!!

  10. As you may have already known from the rest of the answers it has ICK, which is like white fungus growing.  It might be saved it might not...oh well  just get some medicine and let him/her alone in the hospital tank ti'll it recovers if it has been with another fry or an whole tank for an just in case precaution so the infected fish tank mates also
