Question:

Help!? My mini crab lost both of his claws?

One of my mini crabs popped off both of his claws. I bought the two fiddler crabs two days ago and have a sloping stone landscape with water so they have dry land and underwater, they have vines to climb on and hide in and a dish for food that I've changed daily but I still don't think they've eaten anything. The one that lost both of his claws today popped off a leg in the food bowl the first day that I had them but I thought he was maybe molting or something...is he definately going to die?

  1. Crabs are very territorial animals! So the other crab must have pulled it off, so you must separate them. Buy another bowl or tank, or put a glass piece in between the tank an seal it. THe crab will die soon without claws, because they need them to eat. Put fish int the tanks to they like that.

  2. If you have 2 male fiddler crabs in very close confines, that's the problem. They are territorial animals and one probably pulled off the others limbs. Separate them.

When they moult they shed off the whole shell, legs and claws and all, not just bits and pieces of it. Unless they've shed and the shed has been torn to pieces of course.

The crab with the lost claws has low survival rate as it won't be able to feed itself properly, I do not have experience caring for such a disabled invert, I suggest seeking out some invert specialist forums on the web

  3. Nvr heard of mini crab molding. But how can a claw drop off? i tot they are very intact.

  4. I'm pretty sure animals aren't supposed to lose their limbs.

It does not look good for your crab.

  5. u havent kept him properly or the place where u bought it frm didn't

obviously crabs dont just loose their limbs!!!
