Help!! My son loves playing chess and my mum is disputing the rules?

Question

my son is 8yrs old and loves playing chess, he was taught at school 2 yrs ago and is loving the game ever since. When playing with my mum over the weekend she is diputing the rules he has learnt to play by.

When a pawn get to the other side of the board can it be exchanged for a queen?

yes or any other piece not including another pawn which would be pointless

Yes it can, in fact it can be exchange for any piece of the same color except for the king.

Any pawn may be promoted to any piece but the King .
