Question:

Help! My spacers fell out

Two of my spacers fell out last week and next week I'm getting my braces. Right now, I only have a little space where the spacers were suppose to be. When I told my mom that I need to go get an appointment to put the spacers back in, she told me that I don't need to. I kept telling her that the spaces will close by next week and she kept telling me that the doctor will find a way to put the braces in even without the gap. Is this true?

  1. No, your mom doesn't know what shes talking about, no offense.

You need to call yoru ortho and ask them if you can come in tomorrow to get them put back in. I know from experience, when I got spacers in, mine fell out, just like yours and I told my ortho and they had to take the rest out and put them in again and I had to wait another week to get my braces on.

  2. I'm not sure if your teeth will go back to closed again in that short of time.  I had spacers a LOOOONG time ago (little rubber bands between your teeth to get them spread apart).  Normally, if they fall out, it means the space was wide enough that they weren't doing anything else.  The space wasn't tight enough to hold the spacers in place.  So, your best bet would be to call the orthodontist on Monday and ask them if you need to get new ones or if you're ok til you get your braces.  If they tell you that you need to go back in, just tell your mom that it would cost more if you didn't get them back in place than it would if you didn't get them back.  LoL.  That's what I did.  Mine fell out and I had to go back in to get them replaced.  But my teeth were still spaced pretty good.
