Question:

Help! My vonage box / router are in one room, my phone's in the other. What do I do?

All right, I just got vonage. They sent me the box to connect to my router and phone. There's the problem - my phone is in the kitchen, my router is in my room. I hooked the phone up in the room and it's working, but I don't plan on keeping it there (I want it in the kitchen).

Is there some kind of "bluetooth" (not necessarily made by bluetooth, but you get the concept) phone line, where I can put one end on the vonage jack in the room and the other on my phone in the kitchen? Or any other solution. Please Help!

  1. yes, there is....!

first you gotta get the base-unit from Uni den V1868 ( hard to find) and then you register the Uni den BTU on the base unit......!

you can walk around with it like a flip cell-phone....the only problem is you gotta buy the new phone (unit) get it from amazon.com

this one is the last est and kinda pricey...

Plantronics Calisto Pro Series DECT 6.0 Cordless Landline/VoIP Phone with Bluetooth Headset

look at this 69.99 from amazon, this is the one I got and its really good! you can take it with you around the neighborhood, or while walking the dog!

I got mine at a close-out sale at Stables....the price almost killed me!!

    its so cute....

    thats the cheapest...

  2. You should be able to just use a standard "cordless" phone.  That is what I do.  I have my Panasonic 5.8 GHz cordless phone base-unit plugged into my VoIP box.  Then, remote cordless add-ons in other rooms of the house.  Most cordless phones now days come with 2-4 extra phones for use in various locations around the house.

Best bet now days is to get the new DECT 6 (1.9 GHz) cordless phones, instead of the older 2.4 or 5.8 GHz phones.

  3. if you have existing phone wiring in your home, you can just connect your vonage box to a phone jack, and the vonage dial tone will go to all the jacks in the house... you should disconnect the wire from the NID going to the outside telephone wiring... (if you have DSL this is not as straight forward, contact me and I can walk you thru that process.. )

you can get an expandable DECT telephone with multiple handsets, keep the main base by your router/vonage box and put the expansion handsets anywhere in the home that you have electric power for the charging stations..

or.... you can get a wireless Ethernet bridge (assuming that you have wifi, and are not interested in running phone wires) and connect it to your vonage box in the kitchen.

(this is just one example of a wireless Ethernet bridge, there are others available)

the last option would be to run a phone jack from the vonage device to where you want the phone to work.. if you have a crawl space or attic, you can pretty much conceal the wire run completely with ease...

  4. There isnt a cheaper or better type, what you are talking about is a new technology.

Yes, Vonage never gives you ALL the details.
