Question:

Help! Nappy Rash! :(?

Over the last few days, my 11 month old son has developed nappy rash which is VERY sore looking and really red.

Usually to clear up his nappy rash (which only seems to strike when his teething kicks up) clean the area with cotton wool and boiled water and then use a little vaseline to help the rash clear. This time though, I've done all this and still three days later his bottom is still really sore looking! I've tried using Metanium cream to clear the rash and even though its brought it down a little it's not cleared it!

Does anyone have any other tried and tested methods of gettign rid of nappy rash?

PS. I've tried Sudocrem but that wasn't any good at all!

  1. Bepanthen is very good. Vaseline is okay as long as the skin isn't broken.  Is he feeling a little peaky or is he teething at all?  Urine is noticeably stronger when they aren't feeling up to lot. Try giving a little more cooled boiled water to drink and maybe use a cream baby lotion to clean his bottom, rather than water for a couple of days.

  2. Have a look at this article on natural ways to cure and prevent nappy rash naturally http://www.babiesnappies.co.uk/controlli...

Personally, I find the Green People Baby Balm to be a miracle cure!!

If nothing is working though, perhaps consult a doctor as it may be a yeast infection.

  3. bordeauxs butt paste, or zincofax extra strength (in the pink box)

lots of air time, let the sun hit the area too and lots of cream when you put the diaper back on.

my son got all 4 of his molars and eye teeth in the same time and the poor boy had a rash for a week and a half, it does go away on its own but man, after all was said and done I think that last week and a half was the worse.

  4. No Sudocrem is no good I used to swear by Drapolene, it always worked on my babies.

  5. Let some air get to his bum for atleast 30 minutes a day everyday. This could help.

Also, don't give up with the cream - keep applying it.

  6. What about e45.  There is an old fashioned remedy which I cannot remember maybe someone may put it in an answer.

  7. I found bepanthen to be very good. Also sudocrem which you said you tried. Try you GP or health visitor. My health visitor prescribed me a cream for my daughter that was brilliant as she had a very bad rash on her bum caused by diarrhea as she was allergic to lactose in the baby milk. I can't remember what it was called but it was a slight steriod and worked instantly. Also just allowing your baby to lie with no nappy on his changing mat a few times a day will help.

  8. My little boy had nappy rash really, really bad once and my mum put egg whites on his bum and within a few days it was cleared up. don't ask me how it works but it does.

  9. Try to air your babies bottom and use Bepanthen.

  10. sit him ina warm bath for a little while. then clean the area. then allow him to lay on a towel with no diaper, his but needs some air so it can dry out and heal. after that wipe him good again and put  cream and powder on his butt. by using both you will create a drying agent that will keep him dry and help the rash heal.

i hope this helps it normally works pretty well for my daughter, normally by that night hers will go away.

  11. I used to use metanium cream and it worked everytime but as that is not working in your baby's case I have heard that egg white is very effective I haven't tried it myself but I know someone who swears by it it may be worth a try and it is natural and inexpensive, hope this helps.

  12. i tried bepanthen that is actually quite good my son is 10months and got the exact same problem his bleeds but that really works or E45 cream

  13. It might be caused by candida (thrush) in which case you would need to use an antifungal cream to clear it up. If you have tried all the usual stuff to clear it up it is worth checking with your doctor who may prescribe an antifungal cream or a mild steroid cream to treat it with.
