I need help figuring out this one problem.

Ampicillin sodium 2 g in 100ml IVPB NS is ordered to be given in doses of 1 g over 60 min. The drop factor is 60 gtt/mL. Drop rate/min?

  1. 60gtt/ml X 50 ml/1 hr X 1hr/60 min = 50 gtt/min

    One trick I learned from a very smart professor is that you always want to cancel things out until you get the ratio you want. If you want to get gtt/min then you start with the factor that has "gtt" as the top factor. Since it is gtt per mL, then you need to figure out how to cancel out mL. That leads you to the next factor to mutiply by. Etc. Etc. until you get gtt/min

    It would be better if I could actually write it with a division sign then with a /. Write it out on paper and you will see it better.
